A little about our Horse Program: We believe that the surest way to raise nice horses, for any purpose, is by breeding nice horses to nice horses. If a mare or a stallion does not measure up to our standards of performance, trainability and temperament they will not be bred. All of our breeding animals are proven in the barn, in the pasture and finally, in the show ring. My young horses are left outside to just be horses. They spend the summers in a hilly wooded pasture and winters in a mixed herd of Broodmares, Two Year olds, Yearlings & Weanlings until they are put into training sometime during their two year old year. All my horses live outside unless they are being 'prepped' or actively showing. I try not to "spoil" them and just do what is needed to keep them healthy. When I do handle them I take my time, getting them broke gentle and thoroughly. Weanlings have had their vaccinations, wormings and feet trimmed - getting halter broke in the process. They can be haltered easily by one person, in the pasture, and will generally follow a person anywhere. Yearlings have usually been saddled (by late fall), hosed off, clipped, tied and trailered a short distance. I would like to have all my youngsters ready for the Reining Futurities, but some just aren't up to it. The individuals' Long Term Well-being is most important to me and I will readily back off and give a young horse time to mature, physically or mentally, if she needs it. I am very lucky to be at the point in my program where I enjoy ALL of my horses, I just do not have the time for them all so I must sell some to have the time for the rest.
